Remember when I said if you try to imitate Mark Hamill’s Joker you’d sound British? Congratulations Kevin Michael Richardson – you just proved my goddamn point. “The Batman” is a poor poor watered down competition money grabbing television show determined to take away and detract from Batman Beyond and The Justice League series (both produced by separate teams) The only problem here is that one is more viable because little kids watch it and buy the toys. The JLU series was more teen / adult focused with strong violence and adult innuendo humor. That doesn’t sell a whole lot of toys nor does it help the ratings when mom and dad realize what it is. The problem, however is that kids did love JLA and Batman Beyond more than “The Batman.” Why does pose a problem you ask? Well the producers got jealous and went to WB and got what has become known as “The Bat-embargo” among the fanbase. That’s right, no other animated series is allowed to use any of Batman’s villains because it detracts from the ratings of “The Batman.”
So instead of great Mark Hamill performances – we get Kevin Michael Richardson doing a bad rip off imitation of Mark Hamill. Furthermore, this incarnation of the Joker has dreadlocks and knows monkey kung-fu. I have only one thing to say to that: Spare me. But at least we have Hamill’s return in the new Batman video games and animated DVD films.
