Kataneh Vahdani was born in Tehran, Iran in 1983. A country with an extensive art history but, currently, very little room for artists to express themselves. Being one of the fortunate individuals who could come to the United States, she hashappily been in pursuit of an art career since the year 2000.
She enrolled in the California Institute of the Arts (CAL ARTS) in 2001. She graduated from the Character Animation Department in 2005 and enrolled in the Experimental Animation Department for her Masters. Part of her studies also took place at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, France) in 2006 and she found a lively and creative niche in thatCountry.
Kataneh has made five films so far that have been screened in many film festivals. Boxes is Kataneh’s fourth film. This work is all ink on paper and here she tries to use simple lines with high contrast to tell a story. Kataneh currently is finishing her Masters, working on her Thesis film.
