Joyce Jahnke Get Serious About Producing

So… I am learning the whole " producing" thing. I had no idea the amount of legal work involved…thank goodness I have a really great IP/ENT lawyer.

A hill of contracts, permits and agreements on twenty million things…I have a lot of work ahead of me…

The idea of location scouting alone gives me butterflies in my belly…We are filming in NYC…where do I start? Endless possibilities… for my tiny budget.

Building a crew has been a great learning experience. As a screenwriter/producer I can no longer just focus on knowing the "ins" and "outs" of developing scripts. Becoming familiar with the roles of everyone involved with making a film is very important.

I have met a lot of interesting and talented people looking to come aboard for my project "Love on the Brink". I have filled the Director, DP and AC positions…really cool people.

I've been entertaining myself with the whole searching for music for my film task. I am having a lot of fun learning about licensing music. I'll talk more about that in a few weeks.

Joyce Recommends:

Great Screenwriting Books:

This past week I was cleaning up my home office and came across some really helpful screenwriting books that if you do not currently own I highly recommend that you seek them out:

  • STORY by Robert McKee
  • THE SCREENWRITERS BIBLE by David Trotter
  • HOW NOT TO WRITE A SCREENPLAY by Denny Martin Flinn
  • SAVE THE CAT by Blake Snyder

These are some really great reference material.

    Joyce Starts a New Script

I can never stop writing... I have already started a new script.

I feel nude if I'm not writing something, so I browsed my "Treatments" files and picked out a really interesting drama. The first act is nearly complete but I think I may have some tone issues… so… I will start bothering some of my regular readers and get their feedback on "tone" early.
