11 Questions with 2010 Screenplay Finalist

Joshua Hoskison

1. What is your screenplay about?

The screenplay is about Marshall coming to terms with getting older, and the gang takes him to a party pizzeria called "The Wacky Okapi" to cheer him up.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I wanted to test the waters before moving to Los Angeles.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

This is the first spec I've actually finished, but I've been dabbling for about 5 years.

4. What is your favorite TV show of all-time?

"Home Movies" comes to mind first.

5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?

Jeff Goldblum.

6. Who was your hero growing up?

Michael Crichton.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

I would like to be a staff writer on a TV sitcom.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I watch the series and take notes, then write an outline, then write the first draft (at my own pace). After I've written a draft I do a table read with friends who are familiar with the show, and then make revisions.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Music and wildlife.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

A suggestion from a respected teacher.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Don't force the writing. Play some video games until you're in the mood to create something original.
