11 Questions with 2010 Screenplay Finalist

Jonathan Turner

1. What is your screenplay about?

My screenplay is about the questioning of social norms, bizarre as they may seem.

2. Why did should people vote for your 1page script?

Because it uses a lot of naughty words.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

About six months.

4. What film have you seen the most in your life?

At this point it's probably the Big Lebowski.

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

Hmm. Either Wes Anderson or Charlie Kaufman.

6. How many screenplays have you written?

I'm in the middle of my second.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

On the set of a movie that I wrote.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

Yeah, I do. First I'll turn on my computer, then I start up Final Draft. Usually I'll put my fingers on the keyboard. After that, I weep uncontrollably at the blank page for a few hours. Then I write until it hurts.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Well, I'm certainly passionate about other people's writing. I have a particular fondness for graphic novels and the people who write them.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

A friend recommended it to me as a challenge of sorts, and it seemed like a good idea at the time. And guess what: it was!

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

If it's easier than it looks, you're not doing it right.
