11 Questions with JOMO MERRITT. A WILDsound WINTER 2009 Short Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

My screenplay, The Miracle of Isabella Herrera is about a An 85 year old woman who has a positive pregnancy test, believes her prayers for a baby have finally been answered, but God delivers miracles His way.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I decided to write this screenplay because I am a Christian writer and wanted people to know that God is still in the industry of performing miracles.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

I have been writing for about eight years but I have been writing since the age of twelve years old.

4. What is you all-time favorite film? (name only one)

(The last Emperor)

5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?

Steven Spielberg

6. How many screenplays have you written?

I have written 4 feature length screenplays, 3 short length and 1 novel.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

I would like to be writing, directing and producing films and documentaries.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

The first thing I do is pray about what I write about so I can have a good understanding about what I think the Lord wants me to write. I am not one of those that has an outline. I just write how it comes, that’s what works for me.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I am passionate about working with children. I love kids!

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

I had entered the contest before and liked the feedback that they give you and also I just love the whole set up of the festival. It is very unique from any of the festival in the world.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Stay focused and never, never, never, give up! Write about what you are passionate about.
