John Condon Bio

Capture it. Upload it. Give it.John Condon was originally trained as a Graphic Designer. Graduating from the prestigious Kingston BA Honours course, John went on to work at one of London’s major players in the packaging design area, where he soon became a senior designer and key figure in their strategic positioning.

Film however, had always been a passion in John’s life. So much so that, having never studied the craft at any level, he had the audacity to decide (at the age of 27) that he wanted in. He started with script writing and why not? I’m sure you can think of several reasons but in all his bravado and naivety, John couldn’t think of any himself!

Four scripts down the line and John Condon realised that a screenplay (or even four) does not a film make. He decided that he needed to direct. One man and his script isn’t enough though and John was certainly aware of that fact. Once again he chose to be proactive.

OTTfilms (a filmmakers’ collective) was formed by John in August of 2005, to enable him to gather around him those filmmakers who found themselves in the same position as him; passionate about film but with not a pot to.. um.. make a film in! The idea was that by banding together and helping each other instead of only themselves, each member would benefit from the combined enthusiasm, skill-sets and equipment of the group as a whole.

This too paid dividends, as within a year, OTTfilms had grown to over 600 strong, had made nearly 20 short films (at least four of which had been scribed by John) and was making a name for itself. John was now not only in a position where he had directed his second film (his first within the group) but he had built a group of very talented people around him that gave him the confidence to make any film he wanted to!
