11 Questions with JOHN BROOKE. A WILDsound SUMMER 2009 One Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

Shy young Harry Bumstead is a dedicated Naturalist and a recognized Natural Law authority. Making speeches is his greatest fear. Yet, his position demands that he speak in public. Harry took some courses and agreed to deliver his first speech to a Naturist Club. This is how he overcame his fear.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I am a member of a wonderful online screenwriting group called Movie Poet. This screenplay was written in response to a prompt: write a ‘one page’ script.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

I started writing screenplays in June 2008, about a year ago.

4. What film have you seen the most in your lifetime?

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

Leonardo DiCaprio

6. Who was your hero growing up?

Orson Welles

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Physically located right here in Baja California Sur. Spiritually, living high on a big or small screen anywhere.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I write everyday for six hours, seven days a week. My writing method is evolving. Basically I start with a story idea, then I write a first draft straight through as stream of consciousness. I then analyze and slice it into sections, further developing my characters, and researching facts. Finally I massage the whole ugly mess through a series of rewrites over a period of time, allowing some retrospection to permeate. Finally, I write my laughingly final draft which is never final.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Swimming in the sea every morning and living the full life is very high on my list of passions. However, laughter (either at my self or a wonderful story) is my number one passion.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

I love the Wild web site and exploring all it’s wonderful niches. The contest looked like a grand platform to test my metal.

11. Influence people to vote for your one page script?

Viewers of my short filmscript will project themselves emotionally into the one of the most frightening experiences that human are afraid of and be amusingly entertained.
