Destiny of the Sword is my take on the classic tale of good and evil. It follows the path of Ayden Halifax, a young man determined to reclaim the kingdom of his name. But during his journey he finds something he never anticipated—the power of love. Entangled in the midst of a massive war against an ancient race of warriors, Ayden must fight for love—and survival of all mankind. But it will not be that easy. A magical sword looms over everything and everyone, and its mysterious power threatens all they know to be. A new hero will emerge... but will he be strong enough?
2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?
The movie I've always wished for hasn't been made yet. I knew all of the elements that I wanted in a feature film but the right mix was rarely there for me. There are many great films out today, but still, on so many of them something was missing. So I decided to write the movie I've always wanted to see. The result: Destiny of the Sword. Now, I just hope that others will share my similar tastes in a story--and enjoy Destiny.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
I've been writing 'screenplays' for about four years now, but I've been writing all my life.
4. What is you all-time favorite film? (name only one)
Star Wars
5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?
There are so many I'd like to mention but Steven Spielberg is on top of my list.
6. How many screenplays have you written?
Two so far
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
I'd like to be writing screenplays as I watch Destiny of the Sword on cable.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I like to commit time each day to writing. I used to have a routine, but now I just write as often as I can. Sometimes it's easy to get lost in a story and be glued to a keyboard for countless hours without leaving. But then I also have days where I just need to get away from my computer and allow a story to take shape in my thoughts.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
music, fishing, cooking, Redskins, video games, etc.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
I am impressed at the potential exposure that a winning screenplay of the WILDsound contest will receive. Having my script read in front of the Screenplay Festival is very appealing, and I like that this contest provides feedback no matter what the results will be. Getting feedback is one of the best ways to improve as a writer--or any profession. I'll take all the feedback I can get!
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Write what you know and love, write as often as you can to improve your skills, and always be open to changes. I've rewritten Destiny of the Sword so many times now to get this story the way I truly want, and if I see something differently in the future, I won't hesitate to change it. Oh, and watch a bunch of movies to see how they enter and exit scenes. I also like to watch movies with the captions on to get a feel for the dialog.
