Jeremy LaLonde Blog
June 25/2007

Jeremy LaLonde last blog as a bachelor

It's been a busy month for me. I'm getting married in less than a week, I just got back from the Niagara Indie Film Fest, and I've got a handful of projects all on the cusp of becoming realities.

Jeremy the Writer

Last week I brought the newest draft of the script I've been hired to write to my Writer's Group. The new title is "The Up of Down". Some people like the new title, some still prefer "Falling Up". I like the original title still, but I know that it's stolen from a Shel Silverstein title and so it haunts me and I just can't do it. I've purposely never written in this blog about what that film is about and it'll have to remain that way for the time being, the producer for the project rejoices in secrecy and I respect that. We're in the 'negotiations' process which is always the point at which when you realize that the honeymoon is over :) Luckily she and I have a good line of communication and we're both on the same page with what we want to happen for this project, and us as a result. Last night I was brave enough to let her know that, providing someone of better rank doesn't become involved, I'd like to be considered to direct the project as well. We never really completed the conversation, but the bug is planted. The script is really coming along though. We're submitting to Greenburg next week with the First Draft so I'm in the midst of writing the "revision plan", basically a two pager that explains what we'd like explore in the next draft, themes, characters, sub-plots, etc... It's all very excited. I know I've talked up my Writer's Group before but there really is nothing else like it for helping you figure out what's wrong with your story quickly.

Jeremy the Director

Just got back from the Niagara Indie Film Festival where my two new shorts, "Hoff's New Direction" and "Mrs. & Mrs. Moosewood" premiered. "Moosewood" won the Audience Award, which was very nice. And Hoff made everyone laugh in all the parts that they were supposed to laugh, which was just as good as an award to me. I've been a little worried that the comedy is a little too specific, it was very nice to see that it plays well in a mixed crowd. I was at the Niagara Indie in 2004 when it was at Brock University and it was a classy affair in the nice theatre. I
have to say I was a little disappointed that it was moved to the Niagara Arts Company this year, it made the festival seem a little more ghetto for lack of a better term. There was a nice mix bag of films, some really solid shorts, my two favorite were "The Ecstasy Note", and "Timbré". Both great films, both worth checking out if you see them at a festival near you.

I'm expecting to hear back from the Canada Council in the next week or so in regards to my feature project. Luckily I haven't had too much time to analyze it too much, and I don't want to get too into it in fear of jinxing, needless to say I'm excited, scared, yadda yadda....

I pitched a few short ideas to my producing partner Mr. Grani and we've selected one that we both like, and that's quite a bit different from our previous efforts together, so we'll get that ready for Bravo's September submission deadline. Around that time I'll also find out if we're getting Bravo support for "Starry Starry Night", a short that a friend of mine, Ms. Irena Huljak, has written.

Jeremy the Husband to be

Counting the days. By the time I write again I'll be married. I've got a new nickname at work, "Dead Man Walking". Which is cute. I find it interesting how a lot of people view marriage, or those around them getting married. Most people don't like change, especially when it's change that they can't avoid, friends worry that you won't be 'the same', etc... The truth is I already feel like I'm married to Emily (in the good way). My relationship with her is the strongest I've ever had in my life and I'm constantly amazed by how much I've discovered about myself by being with her. I'm reflective and cheesy right now because I've just finished writing my vows.

I'm off to go golfing now, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the guys I go with have something up their sleeve, this being my last golf round as a bachelor.

Until next time...
