Jeremy LaLonde's Blog Entry - February 1st/2007

Jeremy LaLonde talks about the moments leading up to his Bravo!FACT shoot and writing

So this week has been a roller coaster for me. A very wonderful roller coaster. On Wednesday night I had a very brief panic, all of which because normally when I'm getting ready for a shoot I have lists and lists of things I'm doing, this time I'm just kind of preparing my directing stuff, and so I start to worry that I'm not doing enough. Of course the short answer is that this time we've actually got proper crew in proper departments. And so there's nothing to worry about, which I guess is what worried me.

Anthony's father, Robert, has flown in from out of province to be our Set Decorator and between him, Meaghan, and Britt Doughty, our art director, they've been running around the city non-stop for the last few days getting ready to make our world feel real. One of the things that always stands out to me in a film is when the production design feels like a set, this is usually more true for student films, etc... but it takes you out of the film. Meaghan and her team have been working effortlessly to make sure that the world of Hoff Woodburn looks real. I can't wait to see all the bits and pieces fitting together.

Jeremy LaLonde lives two lives

So getting to the two lives thing, because I'm not a full-time director by any means I'm still doing my day-job, which I enjoy editing for a living, but I was extremely jealous yesterday that I couldn't be with the design team when going over locations. Such is life. Poor Anthony is also doing the double life thing, but as producer it's got to be about a thousand times more taxing for him.

Of course in the midst of all of this I still found some time to meet up with the producer who has hired me to write a feature for her and go over notes. We had kind of a brain-storming session in her condo, and because she doesn't have a dry erase board, but these giant windows, we used them - very cool and fun thing to do. Lots of great ideas came out of that and once the dust settles on Hoff I'll start wrapping my head around that again so we can put together a great package for the Harold Greenburg fund.

Jeremy LaLonde prepares

Last Saturday I spent the afternoon with Anthony, Mr. Andrew Pifko and Meaghan going over some preliminary art work. For those of you just joining us, Andrew's character, HOFF WOODBURN, is an artist and so Meaghan's team, in addition to creating his loft, is also creating a body of work for him. We also spent the afternoon shooting some stills with which to make posters and back-story clippings for the film. Part way through the afternoon Pifko and I started to talk about his character and he asked me what I thought he'd eat for breakfast. Now some of you may recall to a previous blog where I had an actor ask me this. In my mind two things are happening - either Pifko's fucking with me or he's actually one of "those". Turns out he's just an asshole, albeit my kind of asshole :) Either way, it makes you a bit self conscious about writing a blog, especially about something that's ongoing while the people you're working with have the opportunity to read it. So Mr. Pifko, if you're reading this, I think you're pretty.

Jeremy LaLonde talks Locations, locations..... locations

I bought a giant bag of cookies last weekend for $4. A nice trick for indie film is to feed your people well, if you can't pay them well at least feed them properly. My lady Emily and I went to the Peak Farms outlet on O'Conner and bought a whole whack of discount cookies for our craft table.

So I'm going to wrap this up. I've been trying to write this entry for over a week now and barely have time to do it now. I'll give a play by play of how the shoot days go. Right now I have to look at some e-mails that Meaghan has sent me. She's been working on posters, t-shirts and buttons and I have to approve them before the production starts on them.

Very exciting times.

Cheers,
Jeremy LaLonde
