Jason Gilmore Bio
Jason's film SET YOUR ALARMS played at WILDsound's Film Festival in February 2007 Jason Gilmore is an artist whose passionate creativity expands into many mediums, including filmmaking, graphic design, and sketch artwork. Emotional and thought-provoking, his work is derived from his energetic love of storytelling, and is driven by a belief in the importance of imagination in the modern world. Dramatic both in form and structure, Jason’s art carries with it strong undertones ranging from the exploration of alienation to the physical effects of inspiration. After graduating from the Film Studies program at Queen’s University in 2003, Jason moved to Toronto by way of Ottawa to begin his career in the arts. He founded Urgency Company, an independent post-production boutique specializing in the promotion of artists and artistic projects. Recently, he has produced several DVD Special Features for a number of Mongrel Media DVD releases, including the Atom Egoyan-produced film Sabah, as well as Jennifer Baichwal’s recent Sundance-bound documentary Manufactured Landscapes. Jason’s first short film Conscienceness, based on the 1950’s folk song The Long Black Veil, earned the award for Best Short Drama at Kingston’s Sundaze Film Festival in 2001. His gritty follow-up short Kowloon City Special is a tense depiction of Rohl Dahl’s short story “Man From the South,” in which a gambler’s large debt is put up against his own pinky finger. Kowloon received a Queen’s University Ninnie Award for Best Special Effects in 2002. His latest short film Set Your Alarms is a haunting, personal film about the subtle distractions of the everyday world, and features Jason himself as the only performer. Jason Gilmore is currently writing a feature film screenplay entitled The Sparrow Boy, which chronicles the life of a young guitar player whose music has the amazing ability to control the events around him. He has pitched the film at Raindance Canada, as well as at the 2006 I Can Pitch Event at the Pantages Hotel, garnering interest from various distributors.
