what is it that makes you return
to the dark alleys where I live?
what makes you think you understand
what i can't?
the light has faded, your face is in shadow
i know its contours so well
the light has failed & you are trapped
the city surrounds you like a dark blanket
you can't feel the warmth, only the panic
only the panic
what is it that makes you return
to the places you know you can't survive?
my world is arid to you
the life I see is as stone and steel
to you
what is it that makes you return?
I'm not a constant friend
to shelter you from darkness
I can't protect you
I have nothing to offer
why do you return?
