I was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. Until my preteens, my interest in movies could be summed up in two words: Star Wars. When I was about 13 or 14, I discovered the American Movie Classics channel. I immersed myself in the entire film library and paid particular attention to films covering the following: 1940’s and 1950’s crime drama (film noir), everything Alfred Hitchcock, 1950’s melodrama, women’s pictures of the 1930’s and 1940’s, message pictures from the same era and pre-code movies of the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Since then, my love of film has broadened to cover almost all genres. In contemporary cinema, my area of interest is in international and independent film. I am also a huge devotee of the modern romantic comedy.
Over the years, I developed a great appreciation for the conventions of movie genres. As a result, when I look at a film critically, I make every effort to judge that film with respect to its specific genre.
My favorite actor is Kate Winslet; my favorite film featuring her is Heavenly Creatures (1994).
I am a member of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and have volunteered for several film festivals including Virginia, Westchester County and Tribeca.
