11 Questions with HOLLI CASTILLO. A WILDsound SPRING 2009 Feature Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

Set in the year 2780, Angel Trap is the story of a woman, Bernie Angel, whose son is murdered because of scientific research Bernie was doing. When her son's murderer is released from prison and tries to kill Bernie, she hires a team of mercenaries to help her kill him. She gets caught in the cross fire between the mercenaries she hires and a terrorist group, and ultimately ends up the target of the fiercest assassins in the galaxy.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I was immobile for six months following a head-on collision with a drunk driver, and being unable to temporarily care for my children made me think about how far a mother would go for her child.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

This was my first.

4. What film have you seen the most in your lifetime?

The Wall.

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

Quentin Tarantino.

6. Who was your hero growing up?

Gilligan, from Gilligan's Isle.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Away from New Orleans. I live in the metropolitan area, and although it has its allure, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to deal with the storms, the crime, and above all, the crooked politicians.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I become obsessed and do nothing but write all day. I work from home, so this works for me. On the down side, when I'm not inspired, I may not write for weeks.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I'm still recovering from the accident, so walking normally again is a priority, driving again soon, hopefully. I am intrigued by tv crime shows. They're like train wrecks, no matter how bad they are I just can't look away.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

It was one of the most unique contests I have seen. Who doesn't want the opportunity to hear their words come to life?

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Continue to educate yourself. Learn as much as you can about the art, and get as much feedback on everything you write as you can. If someone doesn't get something you've written, you haven't done your job.
