TAFFY is about a psychic and telepathic 10 year old girl and her "normal" 16 year old sister who are on their own and on therun because every government in the world is chasing them. Whoever gets Taffy owns the planet. The problem is that noone knows who it is they're looking for and Taffy & her sister have no idea who is chasing them. And because Taffy is soyoung, she is not totally aware of exactly how powerful she is. As a result, her innocence conspires to dump the pair intoan endless series of catastrophes.
2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?
I had written the story as a feature film under a different title (currently unproduced) but felt there was more to explore aboutthe characters. So I redesigned it as a TV series.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
Since 1994.
4. What is your favorite TV show of all-time?
So many people always want to know my favorite this or favorite that. Okay, so don't laugh but I really liked The GilmoreGirls. I said don't laugh, right? The characters were smart and the dialogue never lost energy. Also, having literallygrown up with "original" TV, I like a lot of the old shows - not because they're great art, but because so much was donewith so little.
5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?
Saoirse Ronan because she's smart and articulate. And Saoirse, if you're reading this, I have a film for you.
6. Who was your hero growing up?
Hmmm, that's a tough one. I read a lot growing up. A lot of "boy" books & stories. So I suppose my heroes tended tobe kids in the stories who were close to my age. They all shined a light on the possibilities.
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
Still alive.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
Ha! It takes me maybe anywhere from three days to a week to clear my head enough to sit down and write. Once I do,I usually go from start to finish in one sitting. This is not something I suggest everyone do. It's just me. My subconsciouscranks on an idea and when it blossoms I just let it come out at its own speed and hope I can type fast enough.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Sailing and flying and inventing things and exploring and drawing and photography and filmmaking and cooking...
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
Still struggling to get my work in front of an audience. Always willing to try another route.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
