11 Questions with GLENN WOOD. FALL 2009 Feature Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

My screenplay is about an adventure race fanatic’s obsession with winning. This compulsion to succeed at any cost causes him to lose the woman he loves and he must overcome a broken leg, a bitter rival and the toughest adventure race in the world to win her back. It is a sports comedy in the vein of Blades of Glory.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I wrote it after watching Talladega Nights and thinking how much fun it would be to have a crack at that style of comedy.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

About eight years of trial and error. I have completed six screenplays so far.

4. What film have you watched the most in your lifetime?

Tough question. Toss up between Aliens, Terminator 2, Zoolander and Jerry Maguire - weird selection I know!

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

At the moment probably Peter Hedges - I love Dan in Real Life. 6. Who was your hero growing up?

Clint Eastwood. 7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Best selling children's book author and successful screenwriter. 8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I'm old school - I write lots of notes in an excercise book, do a rough beat sheet, don't do anywhere enough work on structure then plunge into writing ill prepared and undercooked. Funnily enough I rewrite a lot.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

My wife and daughter (thought I'd better put them first) surfing and food. 10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

Love the fact that you give feedback and am a fan of Canada. 11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

If you love it don't give up. Also don't go in expecting to become rich and famous, it's a hard grind. If you do become instantly rich and famous, I hate you.
