George A Romero - Born in New York in 1940, Romero began his career directing commercials and shorts. In 1968 he and some buddies put up their own pocket money to make Night of the Living Dead, which became a classic and blueprint of the horror genre. Much of Romero’s following work achieved little attention, until he returned to form with 1978’s Dawn of the Dead, after which he found some larger success with Hollywood vehicles. George’s cache stagnated somewhat since the 1980s, although his name and the “Dead” franchise continue to garner a following.
