You're listening an interview from WILDsound radio with Garner Haines on Monday July 14 2008Garner Haines has written and produced two radio comedies, and written five features, five TV specs so far, but it's still early. He writes, co-creates, co-produces and co-stars in Hockey Strike, a video podcast sitcom. Hockey Strike, which has nothing at all to do with hockey, provided first-hand experience on breaking story arcs, meeting deadlines, last minute rewrites, and writing for a we-cant-even- afford-shoe-strings budget.
Garner has been a musician, composer and songwriter for 20 years, and performs both solo and with Tao Jones. His CD Metaphysical Therapy can be found in the National Archives of Canada. Among his other creative endeavours, Garner is also a children's book illustrator. His first children's book, Taking Out the Garbage, will be published in the fall. Garner is married to his high school sweetheart, an editor and children's book author, and has one adorable daughter who's inherited the family talent gene pool.
"Violation" was inspired by his grandfather, Russell Haines, who fought every traffic ticket he ever received. Garner's writing heroes include J. Michael Straczynski, Joss Whedon and Russell T. Davies. Garner admits to being old enough to remember King of Kensington as the peak of Canadian sitcoms in its day.
Garner's Corner Gas SPEC Screenplay was showcased at the WILDsound Screenplay Festival in July 2008
