Sing City is about a factory worker with a past who has a shot at redemption by helping his family win the town's annual karaoke contest.
2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?
This was actually something I never planned to write. The initial idea was kind of a slapstick, over-the-top Will Farrell thing, which really isn't my cup of tea but I thought the idea was commercial (a rarity for me) so I figured I'd try my first treatment. But in the process of laying it out a different story emerged, so I went with it.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
2 1/2 years.
4. What is you all-time favorite film? (name only one)
Buffalo '66.
5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?
The Rock (know your role, Dwayne).
6. How many screenplays have you written?
4
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
Livin'. L-I-V-I-N.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
Bukowski said "a writer knows when it's time to write." I'm down with Hank.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Taught an autism class over the summer. Blew my mind.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
I had no idea I was entered. My partners submitted it, not behind my back or anything...they handle the business end and leave me alone to write. Anyways, I'm stoked that they did, stoked some folks dug my work.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
It's one of those things you gotta figure out on your own, mang.
