My spec is for Nickelodeon's "iCarly," and in it Spencer faces off against his fellow artist and rival Pierre Sardine in what is essentially an art duel.
2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?
I was impressed by the show's creativity, vigor and sense of humor that crossed age groups, and felt that it would be really fun to write.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
I've been writing screenplays for two years, short stories for eight.
4. What is you all-time favorite TV SHOW? (name only one)
Scrubs. The balance the show maintains between slapstick humor and sobering insight is wonderful.
5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?
Clint Eastwood or Joss Whedon
6. How many screenplays have you written?
Four completed, several in progress.
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
Writing for fun and profit! Emphasis on "profit."
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
Most of the time I have no idea where any of it is coming from. Scripts are sometimes what-ifs born from conversations with friends about shows we like to watch. Sometimes I try to capture a particular mood or work my way toward an image that's come to mind, of a place and a thing or particular person. Then it's a matter of slogging through and not getting discouraged when problems with the script inevitably arise.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I love reading books, playing videogames, and am always on the lookout for new music. I think music is capable of expressing things that screenplays and books may struggle to address. Plus it rocks.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
My friends entered the contest in previous years and had good things to say about it, and I knew the only way to get started as a writer would be to put myself out there too.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
I should probably ask advice from them. So... any advice?
