The FEBRUARY 2009 WILDsound short film festival marked a terrific night discussing film. The audience was tougher than usual, but had a lot of great things to say about the films that were screened! After 22 festival nights using the FEEDBACK session, these nights continue to be unique and different every single time. No event has ever been the same
Movie Critic PETER HOWELL did an outstanding job leading the night and discussing some very polarizing and challenging films.
The THEME of the night was TWIST. Every single film had a twist in the movie where the film starts in one direction and then goes into a completely different direction emotionally.
Only one person in the audience picked the right POLL QUESTION asking what the other theme of the evening was. And that was FIGHTING BACK! Every film screened also had a moment where the main character fights back from a situation in whatever means necessary.
The ART of these FEEDBACK event is all about leaving JUDGMENT out of the cinema!
No one really wants to hear JUDGMENT. It comes from a negative place, plus it's so easy to do. Someone making bold judgments about someone else's work really isn't that productive. The filmmaker really doesn't gain anything from it and the audience and online watchers of these video don't either.
What we try to do is always give honest evaluations of the films that are screened. Mainly how the audience and moderator were emotionally effected by the films that were screened. Sometimes certain moments in a particular film doesn't work, which leads to a great discussion to why it didn't. Then creativity happens all around the cinema as people want to chime in on whether they agree or disagree. But the trick is for our HOST Matthew Toffolo to keep that creative line moving and for the evening to not go into that negative place. February 2009 Film Festival
