Kickass set to kick summer movies into gear early Just weeks after Lionsgate purchased the distribution right for Matthew Vaughn’s kickass, we now have a release date set – April 16, 2010. Sounds damn good to me because next summer will most likely be dominated by Iron Man 2 so getting in early is a smart move. Iron Man 3-D Speaking of Tony Stark’s soon to be domination of the 2010 box office, the studio is looking into a 3-D release. Which, based off the original’s success, will already have a huge opening weekend, 3-D will help that immensely. It will draw more people and ticket sales will be raised to accommodate the 3-D viewing. If they go with this, look for some box office records to be crushed. And here comes LOBO baby…. One of DC’s “indie” uh… “anti-heroes”, Lobo won’t exactly pull a Dark Knight or Iron Man his first time around, but he’ll definitely find an audience. The studio has nabbed Guy Ritchie to helm the project about the alien bounty hunter. This is good news for DC fans as it looks as though Warners has finally put the wheels in motion for more superhero films aside from Batman and Superman. Lobo now joins Green Lantern and Jonah Hex in the upcoming DC Slate. Whoops, looks like Lobo isn’t alone. Nikolaj Arcel has signed on to direct the adaptation of DC’s Deadman which follows the ghost of a murdered circus acrobat who has the power to possess the living in order to seek out his killer as well as to help the innocent. While the comic book has it’s audience, I doubt this one will really grab a hold of a mainstream audience. That’s not to say it’ll be a bad movie, but I wouldn’t expect a sequel as this prolly won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Batman 3 even bigger and better? RUMOR has it at the moment that director Christopher Nolan and WB are eying the possibility of shooting Batman 3 entirely in IMAX format. In my opinion, this isn’t the smartest move with a franchise film. Parts of Dark Knight were shot in IMAX, but any entire film may prove to be a lot more difficult and in the end, pointless. Number 1) It’s going to cost a lot more. 2) The camera will be very heavy and limit where you can put it and what you can do with it. 3) The camera is loud, and to be honest, I don’t like completely ADR’d films. ADR sound is the epitome of the phrase “too good to be true.” Literally. And finally, which is my biggest gripe, the cropping. Many theaters will have the cropped version. It’s a larger budget and little return. Again with DVD. Blu-ray is the only one that would most likely have the full version and not many people have invested in that technology yet. Oh and PS: Megan Fox is NOT Catwoman. Don’t believe anything posted from THE SUN. They apparently hire people to sit around and report their dreams from the night prior. Last, but definitely not least, Disney bought Marvel. Let me say that again in case you’re under the belief you’re hallucinating. Disney. Bought. Marvel. The main focus from this was that there’s a possibility of now having Superhero films done by Pixar, which I admit would be interesting to see. The problem is, a lot of the “good” comic book story arcs that haven’t been touched on yet in the films include some not so nice things. Drug use, alcoholism and violent deaths. The general feeling from many fans is worry that they’ll never see this wonderful story art brought to life under Disney’s “family cap.” And that’s valid. I understand Disney pushes the lines on occasion, a prime example being Pirates of the Caribbean, but still. A dark dark Wolverine movie, a new Ghost Rider and any chances of Punisher coming back may be very very grim. The announcement came with notice that a lot of heroes at other studios would be staying with them….but eventually deals and contracts expire. I’m not so worried about the immediate effect, but more so, the long term in how this all may play out. No one can no for sure, so all we can do is sit and wait…but I’m not optimistic. Akuna matadada all.
