A picture (hee, hee) perfect example of a movie where tone seamlessly matches theme. Adapted from a 90s graphic novel, it is a mash up tale of boy-meets-girls/coming of age social outsiders who exist on the periphery. Living shadows invisible to most others until they kick up minor disturbances, Ghost World was the breakout film for one Scarlett Johansson although the real star turns came from Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi. Along with Fargo, this was Buscemi at his reptilian vulnerable best and whatever happened to Birch? Or for that matter, director Terry Zwigoff? Right, right. Bad Santa. (Better than the reception it garnered.) Art School Confidential… nope, drawing a blank.
