WILDsound Film and Screenplay Festival is proud to showcase Academy Award nominee David Strathairn in the short film The Shovel, directed by Nick Childs.
An Academy Award nomination for his role as Edward R. Murrow in George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck, just proved to a wider audience what fans already know: this is a very special actor.
His roles have included many key performances in college friend John Sayles films like Eight Men Out and Passion Fish, and seminal character turns in films like L.A. Confidential, Silkwood, and 2006's We Are Marshall. Remaining committed through his long career to independent film, he recently produced The Sensation of Sight, in which he also starred.
In The Shovel, he plays Paul Mullin, a quiet man drawn to strange happenings in his neighbor's backyard. Based on the novel by Steve Hamilton and scripted by first-time director Nick Childs, it's a perfect piece of character-driven suspense.
His performance in The Shovel is outstanding, as are those of his co-stars Neil Huff and Tim Guinee.
