From a young age, I have always been fascinated by film. My mum always said she could station me front of the T.V for hours and I wouldn’t move a muscle, making it possible for her to do complete all her all her day to day house hold tasks relatively child free. My Dad was pretty lenient when it came to me watching films, I experienced the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre at a young age and remember being fascinated and terrified at the same time and from then on I’ve sought to find and experience the best cinema has to offer. Saying that, I distinctly remember the first 15 certificate film I watched being the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic Kindergarten Cop…so read what you will into my Dad’s fine taste in movies.
I’ve just completed a BA (Hons) Film Studies degree where I received a 2:1 (which is like a B). The course gave me more insight into things like narrative structure and critical theory which I now can’t help but look for when I watch films; which in turn helps my understand why certain films just aren’t very good. In a way I suppose, it’s sort of ruined my life, but in a good way.
I enjoy reading graphic novels, so any comic book adaptation tends to spark my interest. Characters like Spider-Man and other Marvel creations have been with me in some form since I was very little and their depictions in film is something that I feel I have a personal connection with, and it pleases me when these characters are represented respectfully on screen. In short I am a geek.
