Ryan Lindsay and Danyel Fortin were both born in Canada. They have worked together on a handful of projects and this is their first short film together. They wanted to touch on a subject that was already controversial and bring it one step further, all while creating a beautiful film which focused on the brotherhood between two friends.
Both felt that an interesting point of view would be the racial swap between the Master and his slaves. Our thoughts on this come from the saying 'until you've walked in someone's shoes'.
We felt that there are indeed many films which deal with slavery and the appalling lives slaves had to endure for a far to lengthy period of time, but we wanted to show a caucasian society what it would have looked like had the roles been reversed, and hopefully hit a bit closer home with what slaves had to deal with. Granted we do take some of the situations to the extreme, we did meet with historians and professors who agreed that we were touching on story lines and situations which are normally shooed under the rug when it comes to film making.
We are very proud of what we have created and all praise should be given to the hard working and dedicated cast and crew who sacrificed a lot to bring our script to the screen.
Danyel Fortin and Ryan Lindsay both make their directorial debut with PLANTATION. They co-wrote and co-starred in this production, which was produced under the umbrella of The Writer?s Alliance.
Showcased their SHORT FILM at WILDsound's January 2009 Short Film Festival event.
