I am freelance writer/film-maker living in Surrey, England. I live very close to London and spend a great deal of my time attending various film-festivals and cinematic seminars in the capital. I received a degree in Film Studies from the University of Kent, producing numerous essays, short screenplays and British short, ‘The Cold before the Dawn’.
I began writing film criticism in college and have always enjoyed discussing films that are often overlooked or neglected theoretically. My main focus has been on subversive horror films from a variety of national cinemas. I have written a number of essays on the cinema of ‘body horror’, films which depict our fears concerning bodily transformation/degeneration, focusing on the films of Canadian director David Cronenberg and the American director George A. Romero. I have also written extensively on the ever-controversial Danish director Lars von Trier, looking at the way he constantly reinvents his approach to film for each new project. This has had a huge influence on my approach towards low budget film-making.
