DAN IN REAL LIFE Directed by Peter Hedges Starring Steve Carell Juliette Binoche and Dane Cook Love strikes in the worst-possible circumstances for widower, single dad and popular family advice columnist Dan Burns (Steve Carell) when he falls for a beautiful stranger named Marie (Juliette Binoche) in a bookshop – only to discover she's the very same woman his charismatic brother (Dane Cook) is about to introduce as his incredible new girlfriend at their parents' annual get-together. As the weekend gets underway, Dan and Marie scramble to hide their mutual attraction to each other, resulting in a series of hilariously awkward situations. Robert's Review "Dan in Real Life" is a really good drama about finding love at the wrong time and in the wrong place, causing all sorts of family drama and issues. I really enjoyed Steve Carell's performance… he has a wonderful and odd ability to make seemingly unfunny dialogue somehow really funny. He made me laugh at the most unexpected times. Dane Cook, on the other hard, wasn't funny at all (which is ironic since he's a comedian). I also enjoyed the supporting cast (especially Dan's three daughters), but the family drama and some of the scenes did get a little tired at times… it just didn't have enough substance to be truly engaging and interesting. Much of it just seemed like fluff or filler. Overall, I still really enjoyed it (mostly because of Steve Carell) and I'd recommend it to the whole family or as a date movie. All in all, I'd give this movie 4 Unexpected Loves (out of 5). Re-watch value: MEDIUM Brett's Review Steve Carell is back and instead of saving the world for GOD he is trying to live in his own reality. I enjoyed "Dan in Real Life," however I felt the movie was very slow in several spaces. Overall Rating: 3 Traffic tickets (out of 5). Re-Watch Value: Low (I don't think I'll buy this, if I have the urge to watch I'll just rent).
