Curt received a scholarship to play baseball in college, which seemed to point out that his path to the professionals was paved out for him. While in college, Curt auditioned for a summer job at Dollywood in Tennessee and got it. So he spent his summer tied to a post in cowboy garb as part of a "shoot out" show for busloads of tourists.....and loved every minute of it.
Summer over and back in school, this left handed pitcher suddenly sustained a serious injury to his shoulder and his hopes of playing professional baseball were ended. Several times in the next few months, feeling the call of a creative life, Curt packed his bags to head to Los Angeles, but couldn’t find the guts to follow through and actually go....old insecurities kept popping up.
Then, in 2004, someone said to Curt, "you can be a screenwriter anywhere...it doesn’t have to be LA". And as is Curt’s mode of operation, he spent several days thinking about that statement. Standing in the soup aisle of the grocery store, he was struck with an epiphany...exactly who and what he should write about...and immediately made a call. "Mom, I know what it is I’m going to do."
And so it is, that in 2007, Curt Willis has seen his first screenplay, "Amateurs, the Movie", be made into a movie, and, if that isn’t enough....he’s starring in it. It’s about...what else...baseball. They say, "write what you know", and he did.
