The cuckoo is not a pretty bird
Not an admirable creature
Yet her nature is hardly her fault
If you dislike her ways
Imagine instead it is merely
Mislabelled jealousy from which you suffer
Who wouldn't envy her life
Free from burdens, free from care
Imagine her a provider of a fantasy
She lays her egg in another's nest
And flies away
Think what adventures could be yours
If you could set your responsibilities down
Leave them with another
To shoulder them as their own
If you had the cuckoo's heart
Black or free?
To be so unfettered?
