COLLEGE ROAD TRIPMovie Reviews Directed by Roger Kumble Starring Martin Lawrence, Raven-Symoné by Eli Manning When an overachieving high school student decides to travel around the country to choose the perfect college, her overprotective cop father also decides to accompany her in order to keep her on the straight and narrow. REVIEW: Martin Lawrence goes the Eddie Murphy route from R-rated stand-up to headlining a family film. Where Eddie tackles the out of this world plot (Mr. Doolittle), Martin takes on the I'm obsessed with my daughter plot! This could be a fun family comedy with a nice lesson on learning to let go. Unfortunately this film ventures into the disturbing where an over-reacting Police Chief (you wonder how this guy could ever lead a Police force) has a borderline criminal obsession with his daughter and just can't let go of her and let her grow up. Directed by Roger Kumble (who has fallen very far from “Cruel Intentions”), College Road Trip trawls for laughs with a chess-playing pig and a bus filled with karaoke-singing Japanese tourists. Throw in a wedding crash during the father of the bride's speech (great to see Joseph R. Gannascoli - The Sopranos Vito) and the father's creepy spying on his daughter's pajama party, you are whipped out! Then Donny Osmond shows up and you want to leave for exits. The only redeeming quality with this film is Martin Lawrence. He's a star and anytime they choose to put him into a close-up, he's charming as heck (family film here). It makes you wonder why he chose this film in the first place. 1 star out of 4 READ OTHER FILM REVIEWS: Return from College Road Trip to home page
