Catherine Rubey Blog February 18th 2007

Catherine Rubey writes about the changes to the 2004 Job Creation Act:

Somehow I missed the article in Variety http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117959121.html?categoryid=13&cs=1 which informs us that the provisions for the $15 million ceiling and what is considered in that figure is apparently up for discussion in Congress. If your indie film will be close to $15 million, after P&A and expected foreign sales will put you over the threshold for the provision. Click on the link above for more information. Also, check out Scott Macaulay’s blog at the Filmmaker website http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/blog/2007/02/easy-come-easy-go.php as well. He’s going to follow up and given the reorg of the Congress, we can hope for some help here. Thanks for the reminder Scott!

Catherine talks about her producers’ meeting.

John Yaworsky, Patrick Roberts and I spoke the other day about this actor-to-be-named later who I’ve been introduced to and who’s read the script and is interested. The issue is, however, that we really aren’t yet in the best position to be talking with a lead actor or director, as we haven’t finalized our budget or start date…or even location. But, we’re rolling with what we have, and the actor/director has been very gracious about our non-traditional timing of contacting him. He also had some FANTASTIC suggestions about the script and we all feel like he’s a great fit for the lead role of Pete or as the director. I don’t know, would acting/directing a low budget indie be too much to ask????

Catherine talks about it being “all about the Benjamin’s”

I’m so tired of worrying about the money…anyone who says “that’s the least of your troubles” hasn’t had to raise the money by themselves. I look so forward to the day we’re brainstorming about the script, a location, or where to get food rather than this struggle. Granted, it’s ALL GOING TO BE A STRUGGLE, but I’ve been doing this for almost a year – pounding the pavement for money – and it’s getting old. I’m not quitting, not by a long shot, but like I said, I was going to vent here a bit. I have learned sooo much from this process though, I must admit. I’ve learned how to sell, sell, sell, pitch, pitch, pitch, and research, business plans, schedules, dood’s, and soo much more. Thinking outside the box…I guess that’s the biggest tool I’ve acquired thus far.

Next week: following up on some product placement proposals I’ve put together and other adventures.
