Cara Mumford was born in Boston and raised in Toronto. Her family, however, was originally from Alberta and she decided to relocate to Calgary when she left university in 1998 to connect with her Metis roots.
Cara's formal education focused on science and veterinary medicine, but she currently works as a freelance writer, editor and graphic designer.
Cara transitioned into film in 2006 when she attended the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF) 16mm Film School, during which she wrote and directed her first short workshop film, "No Time Like the Present."
She went on to be accepted into Herland's IN:Camera Workshop, a juried, 10-day intensive film production workshop. Her IN:Camera workshop film, "Persephone," was screened at the Herland Film and Video Festival in 2007.
Inspired by the films of Deco Dawson and Maya Deren, "Coda in G Minor" is Cara's first independent short film and her inaugural attempt at Super 8.
It has been screened at the CSIF's $100 Film Festival (Calgary, AB), the Fear No Film Festival (Salt Lake City, Utah) and the Great Northern Arts Festival (Inuvik, NT). Cara is currently working on a feature length screenplay.
Her film CODE IN G MINOR played at the WILDsound Film Festival in August 2008
