Byron McKim Bio

Byron McKim’s experience includes film & television, music videos and commercials. Since 1994, after moving to Vancouver, B.C. in 1993, Byron has been actively involved in the film industry, and has been writing, producing and directing award-winning projects of his own since. His entertainment background started in the early 1980’s in the theatre as a performer (winning several Best Actor awards for drama & comedy). Mr. McKim started directing theatre in the Toronto area in 1986. His decision to branch out into the film industry is what drove him to Vancouver, were he graduated with a Certificate of Excellence from a one-year course at the Vancouver Film School,

Mr. McKim’s latest accomplishment is the father-son drama adapted from a novel of short stories written by Canadian writer Murray Logan entitled “The King of Siam”. The short film has been officially selected to be screened at the LA International Short Film Festival, HollyShorts Film Festival, Australian International Film Festival, India Short Film Festival and has won Jury Award for Best Short Film Drama at the Long Island International Film Expo.

Byron was recently nominated for a Gemini for Best Direction of a Performing Arts Program. ‘Quest’, the award-winning, one-hour dance program that he produced & directed for Bravo! has also been shown on APTN and SCN. The program has received reviews in Critical Dance Magazine and the Dance Current. Byron also produced & directed the native drama entitled “Back to Turtle Island” that has been quite successful. Winning BEST FILM DRAMA at the American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco, received SEVEN (7) NOMINATIONS at the British Columbia LEO AWARDS – winning BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY. The film also received HONORABLE MENTION at the Columbus International Film Festival, and has been broadcast on VISION TV, APTN, SCN, and D NETWORK in Australia.

Currently, Mr. McKim is creatively involved in the production of - Six half-hour Aboriginal Dance programs for a dance series for Bravo! called “Dancing with Spirit”. He is also in the pre-production stage on a feature length dark drama entitled “The Vampires of Suburbia”.
