REVIEW:

The image of life is perfect, flawless, and beauty is held within the glass. But flaws not seen run far below the surface, and small cracks threaten to break the world apart. And conflict carves deeper lines against the cracks, and fragments begin to fall. And a perfect existence shatters.

The knife of betrayal cuts the strings that hold me. No more will I be pulled and pushed, and no more will I have to play anyone’s game. But the life that I had is gone, and even if I tried to relive it, I would be living a lie. And the knife falls from my hand.

Life was perfection, a dream lived, and danger was never seen hiding beneath the shadows, watching. But then a child is taken, and one phone call would become the knife to silence them forever. And what was asked must be done without hesitation, but how can you survive a mad man’s game? And time flutters by on torn wings, a butterfly broken on a wheel, and one life is safe while another comes to an end.

The perfection of Neil Randall’s life shatters under the weight of a gun. He and his wife are held hostage to the man that holds their daughter prisoner, and for them to save her, they must do as he demands. But as the stakes continue to rise higher and higher, life tears apart, and fragments of who he once was cuts him deep. And his life and those of his family remains in jeopardy.

Like a puppet on a string, the mad man pulls and pushes him, and then in the end, he is left hanging in suspense. There is no answer to the fate of those he loves, and there is no escape from the darkness that holds him. And his only hope for rescue is denied as the police believe a fabrication sold from the lips of a lie, and he is forced out into the cold, alone and betrayed. But the answer to his nightmare still waits to be found, and a heavy price must still be paid. And the mad man finds him once more to finish this game.

On the wings of movies such as Suicide Kings, Unknown, and 88 Minutes, suspense is spun into a fabrication that pulls us in like a moth to a flame, and the lines of deception, betrayal, and revenge weave intricate lines across a web of mystery that holds us prisoner still. And as we cross the lines of life and death are we pulled further into conflict and danger, and we plunge deep into an ending never seen coming. And the mask slips away to reveal the true mastermind, and the story reaches its end. And a perfect existence is no more.

And for characters such as Neil Randall, there is no going back. The downward spiral that holds them carries us into a turbulent storyline filled with sharp curves, and a powerful cast delivers characters that hold our hearts in love and hate, hope and fear, and with heroes and villains. And we are wrapped tight in the arms of drama and dangled along the thread of suspense, and as the curtains fall over the stage do we play scene after scene in our minds, searching for telltale signs of what was to come. And movies such as Butterfly on the Wheel is a true find and a masterpiece of film.
