Brian Lynch Bio
Born in Alberta, but raised in Pickering, Brian Lynch’s earliest memories involve putting on elaborate shows in the basement with his brother and sister and staying up past his bedtime to watch late nigh movies on television. He got his first camera, a Kodak Brownie—ancient even then!—at the age of nine, and instantly fell in love with the visual medium. Added to that, and urged on by his literary-minded mother, it was at this time that he began his other love affair: writing. Brian’s life-experience has been eclectic and, as he likes to say, artist-building. From carpenter’s assistant to university researcher, and with a lot of stops in-between, Brian has seen the world from a multitude of places. And, having taught English overseas for several years, he has also traveled extensively—always writing about it; always taking pictures. Then, in the fall of 2005, Brian enrolled in the Toronto Film School. It was the end of one set of journeys and the beginning of something larger. Upon graduation, Brian was awarded the prestigious William Marshall Award for Outstanding Student Filmmaker. His final 35mm project, ‘Goodbye Rosebud’, won top honors for script and cinematography at his school’s annual festival. Brian lives and works in Toronto. He is a teaching assistant at the Toronto Film School and is currently completing an internship at a Toronto-based television production Company. He is scripting his first feature and in pre-production for his first documentary.
