Ang Lee: Born in Taiwan in 1954, Lee came to the States in his early twenties to receive his film education. Lee dabbled in assistant-directing and screenwriting, eventually producing a cultural/generational trilogy, (Pushing Hands, The Wedding Banquet, and Eat Drink Man Woman (1992-94), which garnered him serious attention in the industry. Sense and Sensibility was Lee’s first mainstream release, followed by the critically praised The Ice Storm, which forged his reputation as a sensitive and artistic visionary. Perhaps not best applied to The Hulk, Ang redeemed himself with the iconic Brokeback Mountain, for which he won the 2006 Best Director Oscar.
