11 Questions with 2010 Screenplay Finalist

ANDREW EDWIN YOUNG

1. What is your screenplay about?

The screenplay is a light-hearted romp where a naive Princess tries to learn how to cook, clean and have babies in order to please her fiance. She meets the Kid and is misled into thinking cleaning means robbing and a tale of their adventure unfolds.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

A friend of mine said a woman should be able to cook, clean and have babies. I thought clean, cleaning a bank hence robbing a bank and a heist movie. I thought robbing a bank and I thought of Bonnie and Clyde and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, hence Princess Butch and The Kid.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

I have been writing screenplays on and off for the last two years.

4. What is your favorite MOVIE of all-time (name only one and explain why it's on top)?

My favourite movie is Pearl Harbor. I thought the attack on Pearl Habor was tenacious and it was great seeing the event portrayed on the sceen. I also enjoyed the romance between Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale.

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

To be honest, I know next to no-one in the film industry, so I cannot say.

 6. Who was your hero growing up?

My hero was someone totally unconnected with the film industry. My hero was a scientist called Linus Pauling. He won two Nobel prizes – one in peace and the other in Chemistry. Through his writings, I became interested in life-extension and vitamin C.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Five years is a long time. I hope to have a script sold and produced in five years time.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I found writing part-time for 2 hours a day was not enough. I had to live and breathe the script. I had to write for the whole day, whether it be 6 hours or 10 hours a day. However, everything else would suffer, so I would try to balance everything.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I am passionate about fitness, where I go almost religiously to the gym every day. I am also passionate about longevity. I am trying to find a way to live longer.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

I saw them on Storylink so I decided to enter.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Keep writing and do the background work.
