ALYSON RICHARDS PODCAST September 23 2009 - PRESS PLAY TO LISTEN
11 Questions with ALYSON RICHARDS. FALL 2009 TV Screenplay Finalist
1. What is your teleplay about?
When Vince isn't considered for a part because his image is too "clean", Ari concocts a publicity stunt to make Vince more "bad boy". When Johnny Drama hears the plan, he decides his image could use a make over as well and re-brands himself as "J-Dro". All seems to go smoothly until a cop shows up to arrest Vince for a DUI and u-tube videos mocking "J-Dro" become an overnight internet sensation.
2. Why did you decide to write this teleplay?
I'm sure deep down, I'd have to credit Britney Spears. I just think it's so amazing how these stars publicly humiliate themselves and it seems to be good for their careers.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
I'm pretty new to writing. Mostly I produce but I find writing really interesting and challenging. I have written one feature, a horror currently being developed through the National Screen Institute's Feature's First Program.
4. What is your favorite TV show of all-time?
Hmmm....this is a tricky one. I'd say it's a tie between the original "Scooby Doo" and the new "Battle Star Gallactica".
5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?
There are so many people I would love to work with but for some reason Roseanne Barr is currently coming to mind. I think it would be a fascinating experience to collaborate creatively with her. "Roseanne" was also one of my favourite shows...so incredibly fresh at the time.
6. Who was your hero growing up?
When I was a kid it was George Michael. When I was a teen it was the entire cast and crew of Bruce MacDonald's Roadkill (I got Don Mckellars autograph when I was 16) and in my 20's it was producer Christine Vachon from Killer Films. Now that I'm in my 30's, I think it's all of the above.
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
On vacation.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I like to move around a lot. Sometimes I'll write at home, sometimes in a park or in a bar.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
My job, My friends, my family and having a good time (not necessarily in that order)
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
The thing that sucks about writing a spec for a show like "Entourage" is that you know it will never get made, so when a friend forwarded me an email about the Wildsound contest, I was really excited that there was a place to send the script. I think it is really great you are providing a forum for these projects.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers? Procrastination is the devil.
