I read an article a few years ago about selling tactics used by plastic surgeons and salespeople at cosmetics counters, and it has been rattling around in my head ever since. I thought I might work it into a character in a play at some point, but this is where it ended up.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
I love to write and have written stories, plays, articles, blogs and the occasional poem ... but this is my first screenplay.
4. What is you all-time favorite MOVIE? (name only one)
Witness for the Prosecution
5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?
Joss Whedon
6. How many screenplays have you written?
One so far ...
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
Somewhere with a pretty view and thai food that delivers.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I walk to and from work every day for about half an hour, and I "cook" a lot of ideas as I walk. Generally before I sit down to write I have a punchy idea or a witty opener or an "angle" in mind ... although those ideas don't always survive the edits. I had been cooking the idea that ended up in this one-page screenplay for a couple of years.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Art. Nature. Education. Compassion. Timbits.
10. Why should people vote for your screenplay?
They should vote for my screenplay if they think that it is the best one. Or if they are my parents.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Write. For a while I identified myself as a writer without really producing much material because I would hack it to shreds before it really got anywhere. Then I participated in the National Novel Writing Month (check out www.nanowrimo.org. I have no personal affilation other than being a participant, but it is supercool and fun.) and I learned that if you produce words, something will eventually come out of it ... even if it's just a shiny little needle in a big haystack. I leave my edits until much later in the process than I used to.
