11 Questions with Adam Charles Collins. FALL 2009 Feature Screenplay Finalist
1. What is your screenplay about?
'The Al Pacino Fan Club' is about a group of friends on a gangster themed night out who are mistaken for real gangsters and decide to play along with the misconception.
2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?
I want to be a scriptwriter and had this film idea rattling around in my head for a year or two. I was touring over the Christmas period of 2008 and staying in hotel rooms and figured I could go out with the other comics and get drunk every night or get my idea down on paper - I went with the latter. I have just started a 'Seth rogan' style High Concept comedy.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
This is my first feature film although I have contributed to television shows for Sky, The BBC and Beuna Vista. I have written a fifteen minute short film called 'Warhol' which I am presently talking to production company Molinaire about.
4. What film have you watched the most in your lifetime?
The Crow - really wanted to name drop something 'arty.' Sorry - really enjoyed the imagery.
5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?
Kevin Spacey
6. Who was your hero growing up?
My mom, she was a single parent working two jobs raising five kids and my invalid grandmother. 7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
I want to be earning a living telling interesting, well made and original stories - I have many to tell. 8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I have a home office, well a desk with a lamp, but I also have a Playstation 3 - distracting. Consequently I grab my Mac and go to a local coffee shop, grab a corner and a muffin and write until the mood leaves me.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
My day job is as a stand-up comedian which I love - again, it's story telling. 10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
I read a bulletin and thought the process sounded interesting and wanted to be part of it. 11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Just do it! There is nothing to lose by giving it ago and getting it out there.
