Abigail Steinberg

Humble and promising beginnings…

After graduating from Ryerson University’s Media Arts program, Abigail had already four award-winning films under her belt, I Need a Goddess, Lost Soul, Innerstate and Jules, which were co-produced by Bravo in Toronto, Canada.

I Need a Goddess and Lost Soul immediately were sold to WTN (Women’s Television Network), while Lost Soul went on to be one of two Canadian Films to be chosen by the UFVA (American International Film Festival). As well, it was a feature exhibit at The AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and was shown at The Montreal Film Festival.

Abigail’s documentary, Innerstate, garnered her more accolades having been invited to the BBC British Short Film Festival, and winning second place at the TVO Telefest Awards. It was also nominated for The Jay Scott Award of Excellency, for best editing and best cinematography.

Success!

Jules has been Abigail’s biggest success. It has been aired on WTN, BC Network, Saskatchewan Network and Bravo. It was shown at The Montreal Film Festival, the Chicago Film Festival (winning the Award of Merit alongside Hanna Barbara), the Toronto Worldwide Festival, the Inside Out Festival in Washington, DC Festival, the San Francisco Festival, the Montreal Nations and Images Festival, The Absolute Vodka and Frameline 3-month North American tour, the Sydney Australia Festival, the Korea Film Festival. It was also featured on the filmfilm.com web site and the clickflick.com web site where it won the audience and critics’ choice award from UNIVERSAL FILMS.

Abigail has also delved into the area of production. She produced a feature called Probability Zero. As well, over the last four years, she has worked as a producer/writer/director for almost every major television station in Canada, including; Alliance/Atlantis, Showcase, History Television, TMN, TVOkids, TVO Network and CTV where she worked for Canada AM, CFTO News, Entertainment and the Discovery Channel.

Abigail’s big and bold move to Los Angeles, California….

In June 2003 Abigail moved to Los Angeles, California and has returned to her creative roots while shooting a few commercials. Meanwhile, Jules was signed to a distribution deal with Hypnotic Films; a subsidiary of UNIVERSAL FILMS. Together with her creative partner, Jay Krishan, Jules has been developed into a television series with an original promo. The promo caught the eye of rock star Billy Idol and together they recorded a promotional audio version of the first episode.
