SYNOPSIS: A prehistoric epic that follows a young mammoth hunter's journey through uncharted territory to secure the future of his tribe. REVIEW: 10000 BC is an interesting film that centers on a time that is still a mystery to many of us today! I just wish there was a little bit more substance and thematic -- that or a little bit more action and adventure; I can't figure out which one I wanted more. This is a film that makes you feel a bit uneasy as you watch it. It's probably because its story too real and not enough fantasy, that and many of the action scenes and plot points we've seen before in other films. Director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) is an epic action filmmaker. The fate of the end of the American life is usually at stake in his films! In this film it's the fate of the beginning of human civilization! But this film is definitely NOT a history lesson of any sort and it's best not to think too much when watching it. The best thing about this film is the ending that's filled with action-movie fun with a snuffleupagus rampage to boot! But it just takes too long for our hero D’Leh (it’s pronounced “delay,” though most of the time he’s in a pretty big hurry) to get there. I won't give away anymore but all I can say is that this film is definitely not worth the price of a theater admission -- but can be good fun when it comes out on DVD. There's just nothing to justify a big screen viewing --- and that's a disappointment considering that this was suppose to be a grand historical piece action film. The acting is sub-par, the special effects is jarring and there isn't much of a story here. A dated film unfortunately in about 5 years. But it does make me want to look back and see Emmerich's prior films. It might be Independence Day time! 1 1/2 stars out of 4 READ THE REVIEWS OF OTHER FILMS: Return from 10000 BC to home page |
